Well, Congress finally decided to pass a bill called the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, which was signed into law on January 2, 2013. Just like last year, the late settlement date means that the IRS will not have many of the necessary tax forms available until mid February or beyond. This puts tremendous strain on those of us who prepare tax returns, so the IRS threw us a bone by extending the deadline to file until Thursday, April 18. Here is a special plea to all of my clients: Please don't wait until April 15 to call me for an appointment. : )
